The University of Queensland’s North America Office was established in 2011 as a joint initiative of the UQ Global Engagement and UQ Advancement portfolios. Based in Washington D.C., the UQ North America Office interlinks research and academic partnerships, alumni and community engagement, and philanthropy.
UQ has more people-to-people links with the United States than with almost any other country. The USA is ranked first in the countries that co-publish with UQ. We have more research project collaborations with the USA than with any other country. And UQ has received more than AU$53 million from US organisations in the past five years.
Canada has been identified as a priority country under the new UQ Global Strategy. We have a long and proud tradition of cross-cultural exchange with Canada. With academic and corporate partnerships increasing, and strong student exchange links, we are working with Canada’s top research institutions to find solutions to sustainable agriculture, affordable sanitation, regenerative medicine, and other significant world issues.
Our office activities and initiatives primarily focus on raising the profile of UQ in North America by deepening and expanding partnerships in a variety of areas:
- Academic and research collaboration;
- Knowledge transfer and commercialization;
- Industry engagement and foundation relations;
- Engagement with strategic partners, alumni, donors and a strong network of local contacts.
UQ has more than 8,000 recorded alumni living in North America, and we are looking to reconnect and engage with our alumni across the USA and Canada.
The office also supports the activities of The University of Queensland in America (TUQiA) Foundation In 2011, The University of Queensland in America, Inc. received its 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status. It is dedicated to supporting the mission of the University and its students through fundraising and promotional programs.
